Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to the most common questions about our services, fees, referrals, and what to expect.
Psychologist vs Clinical Psychologist
A clinical psychologist has completed additional postgraduate training specialising in the assessment and treatment of mental health conditions. They are endorsed by the Psychology Board of Australia and trained to work with more complex presentations.
Do I Need a Referral?
No referral is required to book. However, to claim a Medicare rebate you'll need a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan. NDIS participants can attend with a valid plan, and referrals from Support Coordinators are also welcome.
Medicare-Rebated Sessions
Under the Medicare Better Access scheme, you can access up to 10 individual psychology sessions per calendar year with a valid GP Mental Health Treatment Plan. Your GP will review the plan after the initial 6 sessions before approving the remaining 4.
What Happens in the First Session?
The initial session involves getting to know you β your background, concerns, and goals. We'll discuss how therapy works, answer your questions, and begin developing a tailored treatment plan together. There's no pressure to share more than you're comfortable with.
Session Length
Standard therapy sessions are 46β60 minutes. Assessment sessions may run longer depending on the type of assessment and will be discussed with you in advance.
Confidentiality
Psychologists are bound by strict confidentiality and ethical standards set by the Psychology Board of Australia and the APS. Information is kept confidential unless there is a serious risk of harm or where disclosure is required by law.
Telehealth Appointments
We offer secure video telehealth sessions for clients across the Mornington Peninsula and Victoria. Telehealth sessions attract the same fees and Medicare rebates as in-person appointments.
Psychological Assessments
A psychological assessment is a comprehensive evaluation using standardised tests, clinical interviews, and observations. A detailed written report with recommendations is provided. Assessments can identify ASD, PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance), ADHD, learning difficulties, cognitive functioning, and social-emotional concerns.
What Ages Do You Work With?
We provide services for children from age 3, adolescents, adults, and older adults. Our assessments and therapy are tailored to the developmental stage and individual needs of each client.
Clinical Supervision
Clinical supervision is a professional development process for psychologists and allied health professionals. It involves regular meetings with an experienced supervisor to discuss clinical cases, ethical issues, professional growth, and skill development.
